 President's Message

It is with great excitement that we begin a new year here as your Executive Committee for the Lohana Charitable Foundation.  We recently held our annual AGM and are proud to announce the addition of several new members to this year’s committee. We look forward to continuing on the work of last year and leaving a solid foundation for future committees.

The scholarship program has been successfully completed and is now available to those who wish to apply.  In this newsletter you will a link to the forms that make up the package, and we encourage all of those interested to apply to do so with the documents provided.

The winner of this year’s scholarship will receive the reward in time for the upcoming school year in September, and will have their name announced at this year’s Diwali Dinner.

We would like to thank the Scholarship Committee, consisting of Sona Jethwa (Chair), Bella Karia, and Bimal Lakhani for their hard work in making this project a reality.  It our hope as a committee that this reward will grow into a comprehensive scholarship and bursary program to ensure that no child is denied a post-secondary education due to financial restrictions.

We look forward to your feedback and continued participation in this coming year.

Sincere Regards,

Beju Lakhani

President, LCF

Funeral Committee

It has been a very sad start the year, with many members of our community passing on.

Through this sadness we have also witnessed one of the great strengths of our community and that is our funeral committee and the work that they do.

Of course, there is no way to prepare for such an occurrence, but the funeral committee has always done their part to ensure that the families are taken care of during their time of grief. As a committee we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Kamleshbhai Thakrar, Sureshbhai Thakrar, Kantibhai Raja, Ashokbhai Thakrar  and Vipinbhai Mithia for their tireless work in these times of tragedy.

As a community we should be proud to have these committed members who are always there to help in our times of need.

LCF Post-Secondary Scholarship Fund

The new scholarship fund has been launched with a $2500 award being issued to the selected candidate. The award will be granted to the student with the best academic average over the last two years of their high school careers. This award may be used towards tuition of any post secondary institution.

We are very pleased to be able to announce that funding for this project has been secured for the next two years, with plans in the works to expand this into a more fully featured scholarship fund that includes needs based bursaries.

The Scholarship Committee responsible for this project was chaired by Sona Jethwa and consisted of Bimal Lakhani and Bella Karia.

We are also pleased to announce that Government of Ontario MPP Charles Sousa will be verifying and signing off on the results of the submissions this year, and will be in attendance at the Diwali Dinner to present the award to the successful candidate.

Please take some time to read through the attached document below and make sure to contact us with any questions you may have regarding the scholarship fund.

 Youth Report

Hey YOUth,

Hope everyone is doing great! Just as an update, I, Sahil Radia, am staying on as President until September. The youth committee, consisting of Neha Mithia, Heer Shah & Sonia Ruparell will also be continuing until September.  At the AGM, your youth committee put forward a motion to change the Youth Term to run from September to September, making it easier for the youth committee to coincide its scheduling with school terms.  Thus, I will continue to be President until this coming September. If you would like to be on the committee in any way, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time. .

We are currently scheduling many great events for you for the upcoming year. Also, don’t forget that the Lohana Youth Camp is running from August 7-9 at Blue Springs this year and we hope to see you all there!
